Not legal advice. This site is an editorial reference. Laws change — always confirm with a qualified attorney in the relevant jurisdiction before recording, and check each page’s last reviewed date.

Editorial policy

The standards that govern what we publish, how we correct errors, and how we keep commercial relationships from bending coverage.

Independence

RecordPhoneCall.com is editorially independent. No advertiser, affiliate partner, sponsor, or other commercial counterparty has any role in deciding what we cover, how we cover it, or what we conclude. We do not show drafts to vendors prior to publication. We do not accept payment in exchange for favorable coverage, in exchange for omission of unfavorable findings, or in exchange for changes to ratings or recommendations.

Source standards

For legal claims, we cite primary sources by name and section number: statutes on the official legislative site, cases by reporter and court, regulator guidance from the regulator’s own published document. We do not cite legal-blog summaries or aggregator sites as authority. Where a legal claim cannot be tied to a primary source we can read in the original, we do not make the claim.

Dates

Every page carries a Last reviewed date in human-readable and ISO 8601 form. The date reflects the most recent substantive review of the page’s legal content, not the most recent typo fix. When substantive content changes, the date is incremented and the change is logged in the page’s Update history.

Plain English

Every term of art is defined the first time it appears on a page. We do not use marketing prose, hype words, or filler phrases. We do not invent confidence with rhetorical flourishes when the underlying law is unsettled; we say it is unsettled and explain why.

Affiliate links and advertising

Affiliate links are disclosed in plain English inline next to the link, on the same page. Display advertising is sold through third parties; advertisers have no editorial role. A product or platform is not penalized in coverage for declining to participate in affiliate programs, and is not rewarded in coverage for participating in them.

Corrections

When we make a substantive error, we correct it, log the correction publicly on the corrections page with the date and a short description of what changed, and update the page’s Last reviewed date. We do not silently edit out errors. Where the error is consequential (a wrong statement of consent rule, a wrong citation), we add a visible note to the page itself for at least sixty days.

Use of AI

We use software to draft, check, and cross-reference. AI output is not a substitute for verification against the primary source; every legal claim is checked against the statute, regulation, or case it purports to describe before publication.

What we will not publish

  • Legal claims we cannot tie to a primary source.
  • Reviews of apps or hardware that we have not tested ourselves.
  • Affiliate links without disclosure.
  • Guidance that encourages recording in violation of applicable law, including where the user has a sympathetic reason for the recording.

Reader feedback

We welcome corrections, source suggestions, notice of statutory amendments, and reports of platform behavior changes. Use the contact page or the corrections form.
